IPT has developed a structured product development system to ensure all specifications and requirements are met and the customer is completely satisfied with the finished product.  This system has been derived over many years of experience and has been used many times to develop successful products for our customers.  Whether you need engineering for your idea from concept to production or anywhere in between, IPT can accommodate our customers with a quick engineering response.  We also can develop and implement any Project Management plans necessary.  We can turn your idea into a production ready product  and get a fast turn around on any prototyping requested.

3-D Modeling

Building actual prototypes to prove out a design can be very time consuming and expensive.  IPT uses SolidWorks 3-D modeling software to create complete 3-D models to verify the form, fit and function of your design before building a prototype, saving both time and money.

Once the design is verified, IPT can create prototype parts using various rapid prototyping techniques including CNC milling, Stereo Lithography (SLA), silicon rubber molds, and other techniques as required.

Problem / Parts Obsolescence

  • Many component suppliers stopped producing military components because the DOD market was insufficient to support the business.

  • Changes in available technologies have outpaced the fielding and years of support and maintenance of most DOD weapon systems which may have incorporated "older" technologies.

  • Many component-producing companies have merged with others, have been purchased by others or have gone out of business, leaving prime contractors of government agencies with diminishing sources of spare parts available to support their fielded weapons systems.

  • Most suppliers are now in the Far East and Mexico.

Solution / IPT Re-Engineering Capabilities

  • Electronic and Mechanical redesign using current components resulting in a Form/Fit/Function replacement.

  • 3D Modeling of assemblies and subassemblies / Dynamic modeling for Proof of Design

  • IPT has the technical and management skill sets required to do the job and is experienced with DOD programs and weapon systems development.

  • IPT has in-depth knowledge of tooling and is experienced in obtaining quality offshore tooling.

  • IPT has an engineering staff with a "rapid development" mindset - that is, do it well, do it quick, and do it cost effectively.

The Scanway coin handling system, was designed by IPT personnel as a replacement for an existing European payphone product.  Approximately 40,000 units have been installed in the field by one of Europe's largest telecommunications companies.  The Scanway unit can be programmed to accept up to 15 different coin types.  Coins are fully tracked with sensors from coin inlet to cashbox or refund cup to detect stuck coins or fraud attempts.

This Trackball for the United States Air Force was outdated and used obsolete components. IPT's redesign enhanced performance while maintaining customer design requirements.

The Public Address Amplifier (PAA) used by the United States Air Force was obsolete and unrepairable due to outdated components and  technology. IPT's new design matched form, fit and function criteria while incorporating  updated electronics and customer requested improvements.

The Task -  To Repackage and Militarize a commercial bus product for M113 Tank.

Redesign and Repackaging addressed the issues of:

reducing footprint, component cooling, miniaturization of components, incorporation of military design requirements and components, rugged state of the art components to address shock, enhanced reliability,  EMI/EMC considerations, protect from extreme environmental conditions and supportability.

  • 4 Battery Modules required for 288 VDC system
  • 1400 cu. in. required for control of 24 batteries

  New Battery Management Subassembly

  • 6 Battery Module package on one Common Module
  • 8 PCB assemblies required for 288 VDC system
  •  350 cu. in. required for control of 24 batteries

The A-1 Coin Mechanism was developed for use in the Ascom Monetel "eXANTO Combi" payphone. Ascom Monetel is a telecommunications company based in Valence, France.  The versatile, multi-payment payphone is scheduled to be installed in several European countries as well as Africa and Asia.  Due to the various international locations, the A-1 coin unit was required to recognize and validate multiple types of coins.  The A-1 coin mechanism can be programmed to accept up to 15 individual coins and has a "best coin deal" coin return.  Coins are fully tracked with sensors from coin inlet to cashbox or refund cup to detect stuck coins or fraud attempts.
